About the event

The witch occupies a complex place in history and folklore. Often maligned and ostracised, they were also frequently valued for the skills and knowledge they possessed. Those accused of witchcraft were feared and yet relied upon by the communities they lived in. The legacy of witchcraft remains an important part of our cultural history.

Join folklorist Amy Boucher as she explores the legacy of witchcraft in Shropshire through the story of Nanny Morgan the so called "Wenlock Witch". Her tragic fate reminds us of the very real cost behind accusations of witchcraft.

Amy Boucher is a writer and folklorist, who focuses on her native Shropshire. Her emphasis is primarily on the interplay between folklore, history and the paranormal, and perceptions of the past through the lens of folk beliefs.
