3. Metamorphosis and Transformations
Continuing with the theme of mythology, the third session will centre on the powerful concept of metamorphosis. This notion of transformation is deeply embedded in various mythologies and resonates profoundly within trans* and gender-diverse communities.
We will begin by exploring mythological examples, such as Tiresias, who experienced metamorphosis between male and female. This ancient story is one of the earliest depictions of gender fluidity, illustrating how the concept of transformation has been a fundamental part of human storytelling and cultural heritage. Tiresias' journey offers a lens through which we can examine the fluidity of gender and its acceptance in ancient narratives.
To bridge the gap between ancient mythology and contemporary literature, we will delve into Andrea Lawlor's novel, Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl. This modern story of transformation echoes the mythological themes, presenting a nuanced exploration of gender fluidity in today's world. By…
