About the event

“Resisting the Invader: Operation Cone of Power”

Numerous accounts of a witchcraft ritual taking place in England during WWII have been published over the last 70 years. It has become known as ‘Operation Cone of Power’ and has been repeated so frequently that the story is embedded within the folklore of modern Britain.

This presentation is based on ‘Resisting the Invader’ published in Magic, Ritual and Witchcraft (Vol 19 No 24, 2024), and looks at the story to better understand its possible origins and its elaborations within contemporary pagan imagination.

Julia Phillips PhD is Hon Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol. Her primary research interests are the study of witchcraft in the nineteenth century and the development of modern pagan witchcraft in the twentieth century
