Herbal Magic and Potent Potions, a storytelling potion-class celebrating Old Hallowe'en.

Saturday 12th November, 2-4pm

There is no such thing as too much Hallowe'en!

Join herbal storyteller Amanda Edmiston (Botanica Fabula) for a trip back to the start of the C20th, when Hallowe'en was still celebrated on the 11th of November in rural Stirlingshire in Scotland!

Amanda will be sharing some of the funny and quirky stories and traditions that reveal the real uses of plants and inviting you to create and try some potions of your own in this family friendly story-lead workshop!

*Warning* there may be neeps!

Poisonous Tales from the back of the Apothecary's Almanac

Saturday 12th November, 6-8pm

(Evening storytelling session, probably with a scary herbal drink and nibbles advise 14+ as sexual references and scary stuff!)

Herbal storyteller, Amanda Edmiston (Botanica Fabula) opens the back pages of the Apothecary's Almanac for a darkly humorous evening of Poisons!

Serving: facts, folklore, legends and social history with a glass or two of something which *might* be good for you, prepare to be chilled and never look at a pancake in the same way again!

Poisonous Tales from the back of the Apothecaries Almanac, the workshop!

Sunday 13th November, 3-5pm

A story-lead herbal workshop from Amanda, for grown-ups, exploring the uses and dangers of some of the herbs which creep and wind their way out from the dark and dusty corners of the Apothecary cupboard! We will be exploring the uses of some of the less toxic dark plants and creating potions and folklore inspired magical charms to start you building up your own Kitchen Almanac!

'A dyed in the wool storyteller', former student of herbal medicine: Amanda Edmiston, comes from a long line of storytellers, plant people, writers and artists.

Amanda says: ‘I've always been fascinated by plants and the stories around them, I love how they reveal how we connect to each other and our natural environment through their use’.

Over the past ten years her storytelling has taken her on a fabulous journey, she has woven words about poisons for Chelsea Physic Garden in London, taken Scottish folklore and regional plant use and legends to the National Museum of Rural Life and the Ashmolean museum in Oxford and shared secrets from eighteenth century herbals in stories at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow.

One of her projects the Kist in Thyme has spanned over 5 years and has brought together local Stirlingshire reminiscence and archive resources surrounding local plant use and developed them into sessions which she then shared to collaboratively create plant-based art works. Her work has a wide range of inspirations and starting points but always focuses on weaving together facts, folklore, traditional tales, history and herbal remedies using storytelling techniques to create a rich multi-sensory tapestry which audiences have described as being like ‘an enchanting and dynamic glimpse into a magical garden'.
