About the event
'The Importance of Queering Folklore'.
Folklore has historically not held significant LGBT representation, and yet anecdotally it seems that queer identities seem disproportionately drawn to these wonderful tales. The question remains why there is little significant queer representation in folk tales, and what could be done to change that. This talk explores what it means to queer folklore, to keep it relevant and rooted in the modern day while honoring its historic roots. How can marginalised groups see themselves in tales that don't always include them, especially when major corporations have used these same tales to queer code villains? This talk explores these complex topics, and suggests how modern folklore is becoming an increasingly inclusive place.
